Wet Spots and Birds

Today, I saw a wet spot on the ground near the front of the loader tractor during corn silage. I didn't think much about it because I just got there, the calves were roaming around the the silage wagon (getting in the way) and I merely went just to take over my dad's job which really was my job. As my dad moved the tractor away from the silo he pointed out blood on the loader, right around one of the steel "hooks" he made for the fork attachment. He told me that one of the calves got its mouth around the hook, and somehow broke its jaw trying to bite at it. The wet spot in the ground was a pool of blood from the calf's mouth.

Fortunately for me, I didn't see the calf. I would have probably vomited on the spot once I saw the blood, or at least feel quite nauseated from the face of the calf. Actually, I am not that good in horrid situations. I would take it comicially or sickly. Case in point: there was a dead bird in front of one of the stairwells over at the Visual Arts Center at Western on Saturday. It was in the way of the entrance laying on the cement, probably a bit confused in the its last few seconds of its life right after it crashed into the windows. What I thought was the most logical way of removing it was kicking it away from the door. It made thud sound, not a dropping a large object thud, but more of a something heavy in a balloon thud. A.V. MacGuyver, who was with me at the time, thought it was one the more disturbing things he's seen in awhile. If he saw the calf, I am pretty sure that he would be more horrified than myself in that situation.

Then again, I am not A.V. MacGuyer...
