On Halloween, I watched a bird die

I was working with my dad on the silo. As he had to climb up in the silo to fork silage down, I was left at the base making sure the silage was landing on the auger to be sent out for the cattle. The first thing he threw down was a bird which appeared to have a broken wing. It was still alive but on its back and couldn't turn over. I quick and grabbed a broom handle to flip it over as the bird was going to be covered in silage. It appeared to collect its senses and started to waddle away from the running machinery. So for a short time, I thought the bird would be alright. I concentrated on the work at hand. A few minutes later, I took a glance in the down the manger. I saw the bird that I flipped over jumped into the manure on the south side, and without proper balance, landed into the quasi-liquid shit head first. I couldn't leave my post. It was flapping its good wing desperately trying to flip over. Again, I could not leave my spot but my job was nearly done. Once we got our job completed, I walked over to see if I could help the bird only to be too late as the bird drowned in a combination of mud and cow shit. If the bird jumped on the north side instead of the south, it might of survived.
