2008 New Year's Resolutions Checklist

1. To be a bigger prick to others.
Success Rate: Moderate.
I realized that my douchery was getting better closer to the end of the year.

2. To be a bigger failure than in previous years.
Success Rate: Moderate.
Screwed up on breakfast, but upped my douchery.

3. To eat breakfast (more importantly eat bacon) in every county, regional municipality, single-tier municipality and district in the Province of Ontario in 2008.
Success Rate: Poor.
Only nine times that I went out for breakfast in outside the usual locations.

I found some awesome for my ears

I'm not done listening to it yet my ears are in an orgasmic tantric audiophile love fest right now. I found The Flaming Lips album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots [ON VINYL] today in Toronto while trying to fill gaps in my comic book collection and I stopped in the occasional record shoppe to try and find Brian Eno Ambient One: Music for Airports, with no luck.

BUT MY EARS ARE IN AN EAR PORN MOVIE FOR EARS! SO AWESOME!

I've been getting text messages from some girl who has mistaken me for someone else. To be honest, I don't if this is an elaborate text spam from some company based in South Western Ontario or a girl who's very bad at stalking. Anyways, it's annoying either way.

just leaving it out there for people...

You know the majority of Led Zeppelin song titles would also make excellent names for rigid airships, also known as Zeppelins.

vinyl bonus track

The Tragically Hip put out their first EP in 1987. The EP for record and cassette had seven songs, but for the CD they put out had eight as cds were new to the public at that time. Turn to 2004. The cassette is next to non-existent in North America and the record is suburban big box store dead. However, the band Death From Above 1979 put out their album "Your a Woman, I'm a Machine" with a vinyl bonus track that's not on the CD. It's like some bizarre full circle has occured. In the eighties, you were rewarded for new technology while in the early twenty-first century you were rewarded with nostalgia.

Monday, February 04, 2008

one of many reasons why I'm not on Facebook or own a video disc player...

I look at internet social networks the same way I look at home entertainment technology: it's an unconscious popularity contest where one group that has to be elitist and supplant their control over the rest of the groups for the sake of the status symbol.

Wait, how can I make this more confusing?

Ass #1 gets into to supporting one format of home entertainment like CED Video Discs, someone that is larger and more important called Ass #2 has decided that another format which is supposably better compared to the one you are using is now the dominant format like videotapes and Ass #1 has wasted an x amount of money on an obselete technology. Ass #3 sees what Ass #1 and Ass #2 are doing and figures another form of home entertainment will be coming along like laser discs and screw over Ass #2 (in reality, Ass #2 got the upper hand on that one).

My mindset is why go to the latest fad when it's going to be out of fashion once enough people get sick of it and wait for the next one, as someone higher up and lower down is going to screw over the masses.

myspace is being difficult

I like myspace. It has that nice dead feeling you get at once popular bars in once popular sections of once popular towns. However, it seems that when I logged on myspace, it shuts down my web browser (safari for those who are curious) three to ten seconds I hit my main page and not the login page. As a result of that, the writings I do there will appear here, so coming next tuesday the tuesday numbers will appear here.

Daft Colargol

Today, I was listening to Daft Punk's album Daft Club, and as I listened to Daft Punk's own remix to Aerodynamic, I couldn't help but think of the introduction theme music to Jeremy the Bear from TVOntario from the 1970s and 1980s. The cartoon originated in France, but it was called Colargol (done by a Polish animator from a series of children's books from yet another country if my false information from wikipedia is right).

Anyways, I took the time to listened to the theme song to Colargol, which sounds nothing like Daft Punk. However, there seems that there is a simularity to each song at this time I can't put my finger on it. Edit: It's not at the guitar solo if you're thinking the original song.

(I also like to explain how New Order's song "Blue Monday" is the hippest polka song, but I don't want to hit another state of confusion and frustration for others at this time.)

If someone is reading this, try and answer this...

I saw a few seconds of Batman and Robin on youtube, and yes, I'm well aware that I can't get that time back. For the few images I saw in that brief moment, the Bat-nipples is one type of sad, but the molded bat-ass cleavage and Batgirl torpedo tit covers is a completely different level of sad in which I can't explain into detail at the moment. Like why would you need molded ass cleavage tights to fight crime? I thought Batman is supposed to instill fear into the criminals, not make them break into hysterical laughter.

I want to know who do you blame on the costume design of the Bat-costumes, the director Joel Schumacher; costume designer Robert Turturice (Batman and Robin, Gia, and assistant costume designer of the Star Wars Holiday Special); or costume designer Ingrid Ferrin (Batman and Robin, The Santa Clause 2, and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause)?

Gifticus has Begun

A New Year, a new record player

Gifticus, The Period of Disappointment, has started. I get a record player from Johnny Sixteen. A record player that altered the appearance of my room... possibly for the better, but makes me realize that I got to get of more stuff and that totally bums me out.

Interesting or Depressing?

I took time to count the amount of titles of the monthly and weekly comics I currently read. By adding all the titles I pick up, and by a loosely based scenario that all comics cost the same price of 2.99, and all came at a regular schedule; I would be spending over $135 a month. Fortunately for me, some of the comics I read come in a few weeks late to coming out nearly bi-annualy. However, the costs of some of these funnybooks can range from $2.25 (not bad) to $12.95 (ouch).

This little discovery made me realise (again) that I have an addiction towards comics. From what I can figure out right now is that at least eight comic book publishers and a handful of area retailers are benefiting from my addiction.

Are comic books drugs to me? Are the publishers the grow-ops? Are the retailers my dealers?

Every writer and artist's storytelling is like a drug; the creative style a particular high. I know a few readers trying to overdose on Warren Ellis and Grant Morrison, while taking some bad hits from reading Frank Miller, or giving themselves a mindcleansing by reading Carl Barks.

All I know is in order to detox from comics, you need to replace it with either another medium or a social activity... and right now, there's nothing good on television and I'm not a people person.

New Years' Resolutions

I actually made a couple of resolutions just so I can break them.

1. To be a bigger prick to others.
2. To be a bigger failure than in previous years.
3. To eat breakfast (more importantly eat bacon) in every county, regional municipality, single-tier municipality and district in the Province of Ontario in 2008.

I do enjoy that by breaking my #1 of being a bigger prick to others, I end up succeeding in my #2 of being a bigger failure than in previous years, but succeeding in failure is still a success nonetheless.
