Some moments of TOUR DE DUBS: TORONTO...

Well, me and Johnny #16 (Also known as A.V. MacGuyver... everyone gets new nicknames on the tour) went to Toronto via 403 on Thursday and had to make a stop in Brantford...
Brantford via 403
which isn't a big deal unless you're a fan of old bizarre flash movies on the web...
all your bass are belong to us
(We're aware the spelling is wrong, but you gotta give one for effort, really)

We got to the home of Stinky the Cat and played Drunken Risk with Macintoss Klink (Also known as Commander Risk) which I received my x-mas gift from Aimee from Japan...

The gum that came with this cardboard thing-a-majig tasted great... very Juicy Fruit-like.

After that, it was a bit of a blur, all I know is that there is video footage... yeah.

So, after all the bacon, sightseeing, comic book buying, music buying, and mystery spicy food, I decided to go home on Saturday morning (and planted a plastic snake near the entertainment unit).

The trip home was solo and I went the old hwy #2 route as much as possible...
Smoke Stacks in Hamilton
Went by Hamilton, got lost in Hamilton, got to Brantford, got lost in Brantford, took the 403 until Woodstock because I wanted to stop in a collectables store (Note to self: If I work in or own a collectables store, make sure it's large).

Yeah, that's pretty much it, unless I see the video footage.

factory celebrity death...

When I read various MSN nicknames of friends to the passing of Hunter S. Thompson, I thought "holy shit, can you be any cheesier". When some people hear the death of someone, their reaction seems odd to me... some people become overtly passionate and irrational while others become totally silent. However, once I read Warren Ellis's perspective on Hunter S. Thompson's Death, my feelings about it felt both terrible and vindicated.

What makes Thompson's death even more odd was how the American and some Canadian news handle it, as a factory celebrity death. I would rather hear how the person died in detail rather than "this person died today of such and such, and that person died yesterday of these causes". Let's hope they change the style of "factory celebrity death" reporting in twenty years.

TOUR de DUBS 2005...

Tour de Dubs is a birthday celebration as I reach my last birthday in the twenties, (as I shall be twenty-nine tomorrow). If this was a rock concert tour, the tour t-shirt would be a cross between Kraftwerk's tour t-shirts and the Che Guevara two tone t-shirt, except it would be John Saxon's head instead of Che's head.

Anywho, here are some the gifts I received from the man who is Hellaboss.

Yes, it's the pen of doom and Hipster PDA.

peek-a-boo kitty...

I wish I had a cat like this one.

more vinyl, more comics...

I picked up some more vinyl at Speed City Records in London today. I scored The Monks (the punk band, not the 60's band) "Bad Habits" for five bucks, and once I saw Boards of Canada "Music has the Right to Children"... I thought, yep this is going into my collection. I did score paper covers for my mom's 45's, but not enough, I got to go there again later this week.
However, I did spend more time over at Heroes Comics and Cards today going through the cheap bins. I nearly have all the issues of The Omega Men, DC's first Direct Comic (then again, I might have my history wrong on that one) and I need one more issue to complete Booster Gold, the first character created after Crisis on Infinite Earths as I feed my addiction towards bad 80's DC Comics. The Collection is starting to get crazy or sad, depending on your perspective on comics. All I know is that my collecting of music and comics is much better than my addiction to smoking, because when I die, my family members can make money off of my music and comics, you can't really make money off of me smoking cigarettes.

Anyways, I've notice no one has made a stab at the "who am I" pic on the blog I did a few days back. The only hint I will give is that it's a good cd because it's a bad cd.

Finding the Singles...

Today, I went through the basement looking for my mom's single collection. It took me awhile to find them but when I did, they were in a most unusual place: surrounded by old receipts from the 1980's and old Farm Show papers. After I removed the paper covers projecting them, well more like damaging them, most of the paper covers were water soaked, I read the titles... some I knew, some I didn't and I played them on Commander Risk's record player.

It's amazing that vinyl still sounds better than cds, and most of these 45's were at least 40 years old. One friend told me that the music on vinyl sounds warmer, if sound could make temperature. It seems odd, but there's truth to what he said because when you listen to CDs or MP3s, they have that jagged sensation with sharp corners and sharp curves.

Anyways, tomorrow I have to head to Sarnia or London to see if I can replace the paper covers, or at least get plastic covers as I am using comic book bags for the moment.

The London Record/CD Show...

Yesterday, I went to the London Record/CD Show over at the Centennial Hall with A.V. MacGuyver... and I have to admit that some record geeks are as bad or even worse than fanboys. It was kind of sketchy like a flea market but with a better selection, wait, no, more tasteful selection. Oddly enough someone was also selling comics at the record show for real cheap, and there was some stuff I couldn't pass up. Anyways, this is what I scored at the show...
Kraftwerk - The Man Machine
Kraftwerk - Electric Cafe
Kraftwerk - Tour De France... single LP

Mr. MacGuyver also picked up Kraftwerk's The Man Machine as well but for $5 cheaper.
Lucky bastard.

DODGEBALL!!!!!

Dodgeballs

I would show you more photos of last night, but this one was the only one I could salvage before my camera died. The image is quite anti-climatic.

The Collection...

This is part of about 3300 comics. I had them on a banquet table, but the weight of the comics nearly destroyed the table. The Collection, February 8th, 2005

My New Glasses...

I haven't shown everyone my new glasses... yes, they are that exciting.

Hunting Trivial Pursuit...

Now all I have to find is the Silver Screen Edition and The RPM Edition (The History of Music). Both are in those subsidary deck sizes... it's going to be a real pain to find. (Note: I'm not an ebay person).

Never Apologize, Never Explain...

For all those people who have to apologize for being away for an x amount of time, don't. You're gone, you're back... you're not a politician or an uber famous celebrity trying to grab more attention. You're just some person who has a back log of stories that you may or may not tell. I will read your blog no matter what.

Heavy Bluegrass...

A couple of years ago while I was driving to some location I was listening to cbc radio one where they were talking about what's considered can-con and what isn't. Anywho, they played this bluegrass band that did a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", but I forgot the name of the band. A few days ago, I finally found out who they are... Jughead.
